Daffodils and brown paper for a pretty spring wedding

These pretty little miniature daffodils are making an appearance in local florists at the moment, so I couldn’t resist but make them the centre of attention in this month’s creative project.

There is just something so uplifting about a pot of jolly yellow daffodils after a long, cold, bleak winter. Simply wrapped up with brown paper and tied with pale raffia they make ideal decorations or centrepieces – or just to make your home look nice.

You should be able to pick up these small pots of daffodil bulbs from most florists or garden centres. You will find that some of the pots available have only just sprouted so will take longer before they flower – if you keep them well watered and in a warm room it should encourage them to flower.

Recently I have seen so many beautiful ideas for buttonholes that I have been inspired to design my own for this month’s *creative project*. Sometime soon I will pull all the images together and showcase them on the blog as they are well worth sharing.

I have created my buttonholes for a cosy Christmas wedding, choosing some of the vibrant red berries that there are in the hedgerows at the moment combined with dark glossy greens.

On Sunday I could be found stuck in hedgerows on the country lanes of Surrey searching for a selection of berries that I could use in this month’s project – with Mr Rigg sat in the car reading the newspaper wondering what on earth I was up to.

Firstly, apologies for being late with my monthly creative post – I have been a bit wrapped up in birthdays and my garden. However, I knew exactly what I wanted to create for the post – a beautiful woodland and hedgerow inspired bouquet that would look lovely for a casual country wedding.

Made from a simple combination of three plants that can be found in abundance in our woodlands, hedgerows and fields at this time of year, this bunch would look beautiful tied up with rafia or displayed as a table centrepiece in a vintage jug or jar.

April’s creative project is designed around the idea of an Easter wedding. When thinking about ideas for a simple but beautiful Easter wedding project I just knew it needed to centre around mini speckled chocolate eggs.

How to create these bird nest wedding favours

I used ordinary rabbit hay (I have lots of this lying around as I have two cheeky bunnies of my own) that I shaped into a small nest. Then I placed the nest of hay into a pretty vintage tea cup complete with saucer. I had a search around my backgarden and found some moss and a tiny white feather, which I placed in the nest to give it a more natural look. Then I nestled a handful of chocolate mini eggs in the centre.

On Mother’s Day my partner’s mom and stepdad joined us for lunch. For our table I created this simple but beautiful centrepiece using a large jar, a bunch of lilac hyacinth and some structural brown twigs. I love this kind of rustic simplicity, and that it is something you can easily put together yourself, but looks gorgeous, and is inexpensive to create.

This would be ideal for a rustic, spring, country wedding. The combination of lilac, green and dark brown would make a stunning theme to carry subtly throughout the rest of your wedding day.

It’s that time of year when the first of the spring flowers start to show, but winter still has a grasp. It’s a hard time of year for seasonal wedding flowers, but we think there’s still inspiration to be found in nature that can be translated into your wedding flowers.

Beautiful but simple to create, these small posies would be ideal for bridesmaids at an early spring wedding. The combination of white, yellow and brown, with hints of green seems to epitomize the end of winter and the start of spring.

Bouquet details

These posies are created from paperwhites, narsissi and a collection of twigs and small pine cones. They are simply tied together with natural raffia for a lovely down-to-earth and rustic feel.
