A summer season of natural and vintage inspired wedding flowers

Charlie

For many of the flower businesses listed on the directory who grow their own flowers, they will have just finished up a long summer wedding season.  Rachel from Catkin Flowers told me she’s been non-stop since May – phew!  So it’s been nice to get a chance to catch up with her and find out what she’s been up to this summer.

Catkin Flowers are based in Lincolnshire where they grow all their own seasonal flowers and foliage in their cutting garden.  Rachel has been sharing with me some of the beautiful creations she’s made for weddings this summer and I thought you’d all like to have a look at them too.

Rachel has done the flowers for a lot of vintage inspired weddings, such as this one in a Papa-Kåta tipi, and this stunning trailing bouquet…

Our rustic country wedding – a church full of cow parsley

Charlie

As voted for by you, I am moving onto the flowers in the church before continuing with our wedding ceremony.  I’m excited to share this, because I just loved how the church looked, it was more than I could have dreamed of and we did it ourselves.

If this is your first visit to the blog you can catch up on all the details so far from our wedding here.

I’ve decided to show you photos of how the church looked and then go back to how we did after.  That way I get to show off all the pretty pictures first.  At the entrance to the church we filled two old metal milk churns with cow parsley and grasses – quite a wind picked up and I love how it looked blowing in the breeze.

A wildflower meadow grown especially for a wedding on an organic farm

Charlie

Can you believe it – this stunning wildflower meadow was grown especially for a wedding on this pretty organic farm?  I’m a bit bowled over and hadn’t even considered that a florist might be able to grow you a wildflower meadow especially for your wedding.

I’m sure ordinary florists can’t, but this is what I think is so fantastic and special about the wonderful businesses listed on the directory.  Some of them can grow you a wildflower meadow, like this one which was grown by Charlie Ryrie of The Real Cut Flower Garden for a bride who wanted colourful meadow flowers sweeping up to their reception in that stunning dome.

I’m in awe.  And wishing I could get married again, to Mr Rigg of course, but just do it all over again and steal these wonderful ideas.  Nothing more can be said.

Colourful seasonal flowers for a bohemian wedding

Charlie

Following on from the recent post on creating your own floral headband – aren’t these ones stunning!  The flowers at this laid-back wedding in Somerset are so fun and colourful, and what’s best is that they were grown and arranged by Charlie (of The Real Cut Flower Garden) who did our wedding flowers, and is also one of the lovely businesses listed on the directory.

I love the flower wreath around the cake, what a lovely and simple way to make your wedding cake look utterly gorgeous.  Charlie’s stunning heart shaped flower garland makes a beautiful focal point for anyone planning an outdoor wedding ceremony.

You can see all the photos from this wedding here.

The Real Cut Flower Garden’s vintage wedding flowers

Charlie

I impressed even myself this morning when I spotted flowers by The Real Cut Flower Garden on a wedding blog without knowing who’d done them.  The Real Cut Flower Garden is one of the businesses listed on the directory, and I’ve known Charlie Ryrie who runs it for a number of years now.  She has a distinct style and provides beautiful English-grown flowers for weddings.

On scrolling through this Vintage British Wedding I saw these photos of the wedding flowers and couldn’t help but think “they must by Charlie Ryrie’s flowers!”  My thoughts were confirmed at the bottom in the list of suppliers – I love all my businesses and it’s so lovely to see them and their lovely work on big wedding blogs.

A round-up of seasonal summer wedding flowers – including a floral dog collar of cornflowers and mint

Charlie

I thought it might be nice to do a round-up of what some of the lovely businesses listed on the directory have been up to recently.  So I’ve had a snoop round their blogs and decided I would feature some seasonal flower photos, for the following reasons:

  • I just can’t get enough of English flowers at the moment (probably spurred on by the buckets of gorgeous flowers I had to arrange for my wedding)
  • They are always such a positive and beautiful reflection of our seasonal countryside

Charlie Ryrie from The Cut Flower Garden has been creating floral wonders such as this stunning globe of flowers for a wedding recently…

And arranging flowers for this wedding in vintage style jugs and jam jars…

Jo and Rachel over at Green and Gorgeous created this stunning (and pretty fabulous, don’t you think!) summer collar for one of their dogs.

It’s made from blue cornflowers and apple mint – I think this could be the new must-have item for anyone incorporating their dog into their wedding…

Weekend wedding planning – my dress fitting, makeup trial and a visit to talk flowers

Charlie

Last weekend was full of the joys of planning a wedding – my wedding, to be exact, which is less than 9 weeks away!  On Friday I met with Pati and Vanessa from The Garden & Plant Company, enjoying the sunshine and their little shop filled with the fragrance of hyacinths and the colours of spring.

Here’s an example of one of their spring buttonholes…

I spent the evening with my little sister going through lots of old baby photos in an attempt to select some to be displayed at our wedding.  It was lovely to reminisce and find cute photos like this…yes, that’s me…

Saturday morning my mom, sister and I headed off to Cheltenham for one of my final dress fittings.  You’ll have to stay tuned to find out details of where I’m getting my gorgeous wedding dress from, but it is such a treat to go to there and soak up the atmosphere of this very special place.

A handmade vintage winter wedding

Charlie

One of our newest editions to The Natural Wedding Company directory is a photographer from the North West of England called Mark Tattersall.

Just a glance at his website and you can tell he takes exquisite pictures, so I had to share this beautiful handmade vintage winter wedding he shot.

Marie and Karl were married in the Forest of Bowland and chose a personal, DIY approach to reflect their eco-conscious principles – delightfully combined with elegant, vintage and natural touches.

Their reception was held at an organic farm in a gorgeous 17th century barn with wood burning stove.  Guests were treated to mulled wine, hot vimto and spiced biscuits made by Marie.  Everything was served in a beautiful array of mis-matched vintage tea cups and saucers.
