Katie and Myles’ garden tipi wedding with rustic decor, a horse riding bride, and a skiing inspired wedding cake

A beautiful garden tipi wedding to end the year with, complete with a bride who rode in on her horse. It was my childhood wedding dream, to ride to my wedding on a grey horse, so it seems fitting to finish the year like this.

This year has been a bit all over the place, mainly due to the arrival of my second daughter in the summer. Any mums running their own business will know the challenges a new baby brings. Next year our family has exciting, possibly life changing, plans, which I will share when the time is right. I am looking forward to what the new year will bring, both personally and for The Natural Wedding Company.

I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas and all our best wishes for next year. Snuggle up with a festive drink and some chocolate and enjoy this beautiful garden tipi wedding. Over to Katie to tell us all about their wedding…

Favourite Natural Wedding Styles: wedding dresses, hair styles, grooms style, bridesmaids and accessories

It’s the first in our new Real Wedding Favourites mini series, which will be featuring some of our favourite picks from the Real Weddings we’ve featured over the years. It’s been such a challenge to choose our ‘favourites’, but as we mentioned in our introductory post, these are really just some of our favourites.

Our picks are chosen from the very first Real Wedding we featured up until spring of this year.

Natural Wedding Styles

Today it’s all about Natural Wedding Styles. This includes our favourite wedding dresses, our favourite bride’s wedding hair style, our favourite groom style, our favourite bridesmaids style, and our favourite wedding accessories.

Our Favourite Wedding Dresses

An Asymmetric Layered Wedding Dress

Favourite Natural Wedding Styles: Asymmetric Layered Wedding Dress

I got a bit stuck on this category because every bride chooses a wedding dress that suits them, and is right for their wedding. The dilemma was, how should I choose? Should I pick the one I’d most like to wear? In the end I was tied between two (this was the other), but Nik’s wedding dress won out for me.

For her Welsh coastal farm wedding, Nik unexpectedly fell in love with this wedding dress from Coast on a shopping trip for bridesmaids dresses. She even told us: “I actually tried it on for a laugh – it looked hideous on the rail and I was going to leave it behind.” I love the asymmetric hem line and layered skirt of this wedding dress, which Nik wore with a thin leather belt.

Looking through their wedding day I just felt that the dress not only looked great on Nik, but it fitted in with their day. Worn with silver flip flops it blended perfectly into their down-to-earth (and very hot!) outdoor ceremony. Later on for their champagne picnic and walk on the beach it worked wonderfully with bare feet. And for the evening party on the farm with a pair of vintage cowboy boots.

How to create natural boho wedding hair // Bethany Jane Davies // Silver Sixpence in her Shoe // The Natural Wedding Company

If you’re looking for inspiration on how to create natural boho wedding hair then you’re in for a treat. We have a great tutorial to share with you that would enable you to recreate this look for your own wedding day, whether you plan to do it yourself or are looking for ideas for your hair stylist.

A few years ago I had the real pleasure of attending the launch night party for An Era of Experience, a Manchester based vintage hen party business. For someone who doesn’t get dressed up that much and who had a childhood obsession with playing dress up, it was undoubtedly one of the most fun evenings out I’ve had (if you’re interested you can see pictures here).

Some of the team behind An Era of Experience – Bethany Jane Davies who runs The Vintage Beauty Parlour and Nicola of Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe wedding accessories – collaborated to create this fab tutorial for boho wedding hair. In addition to the tutorial are ideas on how you can wear Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe wedding hair accessories with this look.

Next week we have the second part to this feature, which is a how to for getting a natural boho make-up look.

Laura and Dave’s autumn barn wedding with a handfasting ceremony and seasonal decorations

Dave and Laura's autumn wedding

Autumn barn wedding with a handfasting ceremony

It has been a while since I featured an exclusive real wedding on the blog, more through my own fault than lack of them to share.  Whenever I put together a real wedding feature I feel this immense sense of responsibility to the couple who’s wedding it is – after all  this was their special day and I want to do my very best in portraying it here on my blog.

As a result it takes me a great many hours to put together the beautiful photographs and carefully answers questions submitted by the bride.  Today’s wedding is a very gorgeous autumnal affair, that was inspired by the couples love for the countryside.

Laura and Dave got married in Stratford Upon Avon during the autumnal month of October, with a humanist ceremony.  Their wedding was captured beautifully by TNWC photographer Sarah Brittain Edwards Photography.  Over to bride Laura to tell us more about the day…

“We both love Autumn and were keen to reflect the season, with it’s lovely cosiness and beautiful colours.  We wanted it to feel personal and handcrafted – no ‘Gold Package’ all inclusive deals!  And being a country girl at heart, I wanted it to feel rustic, homely and unfussy.”

Seasonal Highland inspired November wedding

Seasonal and handcrafted November wedding

It is lovely to be able to share such a beautiful seasonal wedding full of handmade details, and one that took place in November.  Photographed by Laura Babb, Dan and Ali’s November wedding was held at Folly Farm, a stunning green wedding venue set amongst 250 acres of woodland and nature reserve.  On hearing more about this handcrafted wedding I knew it was just the kind of wedding you would love to see.

“When we found Folly Farm we knew it was the right spot. We completely lucked out with the weather on the day, it was hard to believe it was November – but as we fell for Folly Farm’s vantage point and woodland walks on a dreich February morning, we knew it would be beautiful no matter what.”

Winter hair garland of wax flowers and ivy

Charlie

wax flower and ivy garland

If you’re planning a winter wedding for 2012 and you fancy something quite earthy and in tune with the natural world, then this gorgeous hair garland of wax flowers and ivy would fit in wonderfully.  Whether it was worn by your bridesmaids, or yourself (I could only dream of being gutsy enough to pull it off), it would certainly add to that ‘mid-winter’ feel.

I’m imagining something along the lines of roaring log fires, mugs of hot mulled cider and lots of ivy hung everywhere…very Robin Hood.  I think these flower garlands would be equally at home at a wedding held at country house hotel. It’s such a beautiful combination of greenery and flowers.

Our rustic country wedding – the veil, the hair and make-up, and pretty accessories

Charlie

Today it’s all about my wedding accessories – from my vintage inspired shoes to the heirloom lace veil, natural make-up to a gorgeous garters.  It’s all here including the details of how I came to choose them for our wedding.

The Shoes

Mark Tattersall Photography

I spent ages looking for the ‘right’ shoes.  So many wedding shoes are elegant but modern, and my dress was so delicate and had a country feel to it, that I wanted something with an old-fashioned feel.  I also didn’t want really high heels as most of our wedding was spent walking on grass.

Mark Tattersall Photography

In the end I came across the gorgeous designs by Diane Hassall and fell in love with a pair called ‘Liliana’ – I managed to track them down to a bridal shop in nearby Knutsford and despite being loads more than I’d ever imagined spending, they came home with me.  They came with a choice of floaty organza or velvet ties – I went for the velvet ones.

Mark Tattersall Photography

I particuarly love this picture above of my shoes on the windowsill in my parent’s bedroom, with all those personal bits you find in people’s houses in the background.

The Veils

I hadn’t planned on wearing any veil…and I ended up having two!  My mum spent ages trying to track down the family veil, which she had worn when she married my dad, and my granny before her, and so on back through the generations.

I love this photo of my little sister Izzy holding my parents wedding album open at a photo of my mum wearing the veil, with it hanging behind Izzy from the cupboard…

Delightful alternative uses for natural petal confetti

Charlie

There are some lovely companies out there producing natural petal confetti and some like the lovely Rosie at Bespoke Confetti even grow the flowers to produce the petals.

I have been inspired by some of the creative and alternative ideas they have for using natural petal confetti, and knew I had to share them with you.

With flowers in her hair

Charlie

Some of you might remember this brides beautiful flower adorned hair, well here’s a bridesmaid with jolly blue cornflowers (one of my favourites) fastened in her hair.

I really wanted to use fresh flowers in my hair on my wedding day, I’m just having trouble deciding how I want my hair and how flowers could fit in.

I am used to wearing my hair down most of the time, so I don’t want a fancy ‘up do’ – but if I leave it completely loose there’s not many ways or places to fix flowers in.  Thoughts welcome!
