Favourite Natural Wedding Styles: wedding dresses, hair styles, grooms style, bridesmaids and accessories

It’s the first in our new Real Wedding Favourites mini series, which will be featuring some of our favourite picks from the Real Weddings we’ve featured over the years. It’s been such a challenge to choose our ‘favourites’, but as we mentioned in our introductory post, these are really just some of our favourites.

Our picks are chosen from the very first Real Wedding we featured up until spring of this year.

Natural Wedding Styles

Today it’s all about Natural Wedding Styles. This includes our favourite wedding dresses, our favourite bride’s wedding hair style, our favourite groom style, our favourite bridesmaids style, and our favourite wedding accessories.

Our Favourite Wedding Dresses

An Asymmetric Layered Wedding Dress

I got a bit stuck on this category because every bride chooses a wedding dress that suits them, and is right for their wedding. The dilemma was, how should I choose? Should I pick the one I’d most like to wear? In the end I was tied between two (this was the other), but Nik’s wedding dress won out for me.

For her Welsh coastal farm wedding, Nik unexpectedly fell in love with this wedding dress from Coast on a shopping trip for bridesmaids dresses. She even told us: “I actually tried it on for a laugh – it looked hideous on the rail and I was going to leave it behind.” I love the asymmetric hem line and layered skirt of this wedding dress, which Nik wore with a thin leather belt.

Looking through their wedding day I just felt that the dress not only looked great on Nik, but it fitted in with their day. Worn with silver flip flops it blended perfectly into their down-to-earth (and very hot!) outdoor ceremony. Later on for their champagne picnic and walk on the beach it worked wonderfully with bare feet. And for the evening party on the farm with a pair of vintage cowboy boots.

A Vintage Polka Dot Wedding Dress

I also asked Samantha which her favourite was and she chose this vintage wedding dress worn by Irminta. Samantha loved the polka dots, the frills the black bow, and the way it caught the light.

Our Favourite Bride’s Wedding Hairstyle

Natural and Loose Wavy Wedding Hair

Wedding hairstyles are so unique to the bride and her style, but for my favourite I’ve chosen Zoe’s loose wavy hairstyle. With similar hair length this is similar to the style I chose for my own wedding day.

I love that it’s simply but with a flower crown added it’s a very natural down-to-earth style. I just want to know how she kept it looking so lovely all day!

Romantic Plaits and Curls

When I asked Samantha which her favourite wedding hair was, she chose another of my favourites. This beautiful hair style with its tiny plaits and loose curls is romantic and has a vintage feel to it.

Our Favourite Groom Style

A Powder Blue Suit with Blue Suede Shoes

We’ve had some great grooms each with their individual style, but James’ powder blue suit is my favourite. He wore a thinly striped pale blue suit with a dark tie and blue suede shoes from his epic summer wedding to Jodie. For me it totally fitted in with their mid September wedding, with it’s hazy skies and golden light.

Our Favourite Bridesmaids Dresses

This photograph of bride Emma and her bridesmaids is one that has stuck with me over the years. They all look so happy and I love how the mismatched dresses compliment each other and the Jenny Packham wedding dress so perfectly. A beautiful example of how letting your bridesmaids choose their own dresses can work really well.

Emma and Gianni’s wedding was the first Real Wedding I ever had the honour to feature on our blog, and Emma described it “eclectic vintage meets Darling Buds of May.” The soft pinky colours of the bridesmaids dresses and their handmade headpieces all capture that feel for me.

Shades of White for Natural Bridesmaids

When I asked Samantha what her favourite bridesmaids dresses had been, she chose those worn at Matt and Jo’s relaxed Cornish wedding. The bridesmaids all wore individual dresses in white and went barefoot for this down-to-earth outdoor wedding.

Our Favourite Wedding Accessories

A Moon Shaped Necklace and Tiny Beaded Hair Pins

Laura and Dave planned a homely autumn wedding that reflected the seasons in many ways. The wedding accessories that Laura chose are my most loved from all our Real Weddings because they echo that autumnal feel. The necklace is shaped like a crescent moon and custom designed with the mustard yellows and autumn golds that were incorporated into their wedding.

Laura made her wedding hair pins, using tiny wired beads wrapped around bobby pins. A great little handmade project and an alternative to wedding hair flowers, perfect for an autumn wedding.
