If you’re looking for inspiration on how to create natural boho wedding hair then you’re in for a treat. We have a great tutorial to share with you that would enable you to recreate this look for your own wedding day, whether you plan to do it yourself or are looking for ideas for your hair stylist.
A few years ago I had the real pleasure of attending the launch night party for An Era of Experience, a Manchester based vintage hen party business. For someone who doesn’t get dressed up that much and who had a childhood obsession with playing dress up, it was undoubtedly one of the most fun evenings out I’ve had (if you’re interested you can see pictures here).
Some of the team behind An Era of Experience – Bethany Jane Davies who runs The Vintage Beauty Parlour and Nicola of Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe wedding accessories – collaborated to create this fab tutorial for boho wedding hair. In addition to the tutorial are ideas on how you can wear Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe wedding hair accessories with this look.
Next week we have the second part to this feature, which is a how to for getting a natural boho make-up look.
How to create natural boho wedding hair
Start with hair that is at least 24-48 hours unwashed. If you have oily roots use dry shampoo. If you have very fine or straight hair you can pre-curl for volume or texture.
Next, section the hair in a centre or side parting.
Section the hair from ear to ear and clip the rest out of the way, and then spray with a salt spray to add texture.
The next step is to plait the hair loosely on the first side and secure with fine elastic bands.
Then repeat this on the other side, plaiting the hair loosely and securing with fine elastic bands.
When you’re finished your hair should look something like this…
Next, tease the hair at the crown with a brush or comb, adding a small amount of hairspray at the roots.
Then use your finger tips to loosen the braids, for a more natural appearance.
Take one braid, sweep around the back of the head and pin in to place.
Repeat with the other braid, pinning it into place.
Hide the ends of the braids by tucking them under each other.
Divide the back of the head in to three sections and loosely braid.
Pin these in place at the back of the head, twisting them as you pin them, there is no set pattern to this.
Tuck the ends in.
Use your fingertips to loosen the braids, pulling out pieces until you are happy with the finished result.
Finally, set with hairspray.
How to accessorise your boho wedding hair
Once you’ve created your natural boho wedding hair, you probably want to add some accessories. Fresh flowers or a flower crown are a popular option, but our friend Silver Sixpence in her Shoe has a stunning range of vintage inspired bridal head pieces and hair clips that you might just fall in love with.
Here’s a look at how perfectly they work with this boho wedding hair style…
