TNWC Real Brides: introducing Sarah and Lee’s homemade child-friendly wedding

Charlie

This week I’ve already introduced TNWC Real Bride Myfawny who’s planning a creative and vintage inspired wedding celebration with her Mr-to-be Tom (oh and Arthur the dachshund!), so today it’s ‘Real Bride’ number 4 – the lovely Sarah.

Sarah and Lee are getting hitched in Nottinghamshire and are making their wedding a child-friendly (they have two cuties called Ava and Archie) and homemade affair – I can’t wait to hear all about it as their plans unfurl.

I’m also really excited because I met Sarah’s mum Susan last summer on the Catkin cut flower course (she’s growing lots of flowers for their wedding!).  So it’s over to Sarah to tell you all about their plans so far…

Sarah + Lee: 24th August 2013, Nottinghamshire

Hi my name is Sarah Milner I am 26 and engaged to the handsome Lee Broadhurst who turns 30 on Christmas day!  We have 2 children Ava who’s 5 and Archie who is 21 months old.  Our wedding is taking place on August 24th 2013, we are tying the knot at the gorgeous old vicarage in Elkesley – it’s a beautiful old building which is a private home in which they allow 12 weddings a year to take place.

The ceremony would take place inside the house and afterwards we move into the marquee set in the beautiful gardens where we are having an informal tea party for guests and a BBQ later in the evening.  It’s the perfect setting for the relaxed, homemade, family wedding we really desire.

My lovely mum is playing a big part in my day, she is growing and arranging the flowers for the big day.  She is also making hand knitted toy dogs as favours for young guests, handmade lavender bags for the ladies and we are still deciding what to do for the men!

Becoming A Natural Wedding Bride

Please note as of February 2013 I have closed applications for this feature.  However, if you are planning a wedding for 2014 and are interested in being a guest bride blogger later in the year, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at charlie@thenaturalweddingcompany.co.uk.

I thought it was about time I opened up these pages to someone else’s wedding plans, a bride-to-be who’s creating a handmade wedding that fits with my ethos of natural, eco-friendly, seasonal, vintage and homemade.

I get so many emails from creative couples who are crafting wonderful sounding wedding days that I’d like you all to have a voice here too, and to inspire others who are just starting out on this mad wedding journey.

I don’t have a specific number of contributors that I’m looking for, it seemed a bit daft to request a certain number when it’s the first time I’ve tried it, I would just like to open up the invitation for you to get in contact if you’re interested and keen.

Exquisite embroidered wedding scrolls from Upsticks Boutique – alternative wedding stationery or keepsake

Charlie

Embroidered wedding scroll

There are so many beautiful wedding ideas out there, but sometimes something pops into my inbox that just seems that little bit extra special.  When Caroline from REloved Boutique in Nottingham emailed me to tell me all about the beautiful embroidered wedding scrolls made by her friend Sally I was intrigued.

From her shed studio nicknamed Upsticks Boutique, Sally uses recycled, reclaimed and vintage fabrics to create what I can only describe as art – in particular, she makes these beautiful wedding scrolls with your wedding date and details hand-stitched into them.

They have a variety of uses, from a keepsake of the day (particularly beautiful when framed) to actual wedding invitations to be sent out to your guests.  She’s also started making ‘save the dates’ in a similar style, and is keen to expand into all elements of wedding stationery.

DIY project: wedding favour pouches made from recycled brown card

Charlie

Handmade wedding favour pouches

Today I get to share a wonderful DIY project from TNWC business Razzle Dazzle Rose.  Run by Sharon, Razzle Dazzle Rose stocks a fantastic selection of eco-friendly brown craft products, including various sizes sheets of card (including postcard size), favour boxes, envelopes, and place cards.  If you love recycled brown card and are planning your wedding then you’re bound to love Razzle Dazzle Rose.

To help inspire you, Sharon is sharing with us a DIY project on how to make these very cute wedding favour pouches – I think they’d also make great gift boxes for Christmas.  So without further ado, I’ll pass you over to Sharon from Razzle Dazzle Rose to show you how to make them…

Handmade Wedding Favour Pouches

Step 1 – Firstly, you need an A4 sheet of the 275gm Kraft card (available from Razzle Dazzle Rose).  Please note, the 300gm kraft card available from Razzle Dazzle Rose is too thick and won’t crease as easily. Cut the A4 card to 8.5 x 11 inches.

Vintage postcard save the dates

It’s been a while since I shared some of your lovely wedding stationery designs, and I get some utterly lovely emails from you all with snaps of your designs attached.  So I decided I’m going to get better at sharing them with you, and to start with I’ve got these lovely vintage inspired postcard save the dates from Matt and his fiancée Candice.

Matt and Candice are getting married in January 2014 in the Lake District, because Candice is Australian they’ve had to be super organised ahead of time to give her family plenty of time to plan for their wedding.

Country tea party wedding

Country tea party wedding at South Farm

I’m utterly delighted to be able to share Anna and James’ relaxed country tea party wedding on the blog today.  They got married at South Farm in Cambridgeshire back in June and the lovely Dasha Caffrey captured their wedding.

Handmade wedding menu

“Our idea was to have a really relaxed country wedding with bunting, vintage tea cups and hopefully an outdoor ceremony if the weather was good enough!  James and I are also real ale enthusiasts, so we had a good number of polypins [barrels] of beer on the bar, which along with the pimms and croquet, helped create a lovely village fete type atmosphere.”

Vintage country wedding place setting

“We fell in love with South Farm as soon as we saw it – it has a very natural charm and just felt like a friendly place.  We thought it would be totally out of our budget, but decided to go and have a look anyway as it’s only about 20 minutes from where we live.”  It turned out a number of Anna and James’ friends had either been married there or been to weddings at South Farm and all highly recommended it.  “I guess having so many personal recommendations just clinched it for us!”

Quirky hand embroidered ties for your groom, best man and ushers

Mama Wolf handmade wedding ties

I came across Mama Wolf when she mentioned a piece I’d written about being a good wife on her blog.  Sandeep who is the self taught seamstress and proud owner of Mama Wolf, describes her business as a mens fashion accessories label.  In particular, Mama Wolf produces super cool neckties and has recently launched a bespoke wedding tie service.

Having spotted these latest ties on her website that she created, I really wanted to share them, not only because there’s not often a lot for boys on wedding blogs, but also because they are pretty darn cool.

Embroidered wedding ties

Sandeep told me that the bride and groom wanted five wedding ties in a rich orange cotton with embroidered motifs, “each motif represented something personal to the groom, the best man and the ushers.”

Rustic shabby chic wedding invitations

Some of my favourite emails are from you lovely readers, sending me pictures of your wedding stationery that has been inspired by my own wedding invitations or save the dates.  Today I get to share with you Hollie’s wedding stationery, which was also inspired by ours, with a few tweaks and her own stamp on it.

Recycled brown card wedding invitations

She combined our two ideas, turning her wedding invitations into a larger version of our sealed save the dates.  I love this idea, I can imagine it would be lovely to receive one of these in the post and to unfold it.

Etsy wedding gift list

I have long been a fan of Etsy for its incredible choice of beautiful handmade items – both mine and Mr Rigg’s wedding rings (engagement and his wedding band) came from Etsy sellers around the world.  In the past I have featured all kinds of wedding goodies from Etsy sellers, but now Etsy has launched a fabulous new feature for brides- and grooms-to-be.

The brand new Etsy Weddings website allows you to find the latest weddings trends, how-to’s, expert advice and inspirational stories from real couples.  They have also launched the Etsy Wedding Registry, so you can put together a wedding gift list from all the fabulous independent Etsy sellers around the world.
