This spring photoshoot is full of natural organic wedding inspiration with hints of peach, pale blue and copper. The team were inspired by vintage reclamation and the organic and natural colours and textures of oxidised copper. From the exquisite handpainted botanical cakes to the vintage wedding dresses (the rose pink one!) and touches of foraged blossom, this photoshoot is brimming with inspiration.
Over to photographer Jenny Owens to tell us more…
Natural organic wedding inspiration
Inspired by copper wedding colours
The photoshoot came about after Rachel Hudson (cakes), Alice (flowers) and I got talking at a recent wedding fair. We loved each other’s work and decided to come up with a styled shoot around copper, a current favourite of ours.
Rachel makes amazing tasting cakes and marshmallows and has an incredible talent in hand-painting flowers and delicate scenes. Alice runs her own flower farm and specialises in beautifully scented flowers and greenery (her section at the wedding fair was the epitome of a pretty summer meadow). Finally, I am very fond of old fashioned film photography with its soft, natural and romantic look which lends itself to a rustic style.
We felt that in keeping with our styles we’d like to arrange a photoshoot that was organic and natural. So we decided on the colours and textures of oxidised copper.
A barn and meadow wedding venue
Inspired by a recent visit to Kingsettle Stud – which had just opened as a wedding venue – our theme was influenced by the idea of reclamation and transformation. Kingsettle was formerly a stables and had recently transformed into a wedding venue with two barns.
The barns are part of an organically managed estate at Cholderton and their meadow and polo field can also be hired out for weddings. We walked around the estate as part of the shoot, and met some horses, white doves and peacocks (whose colours matched our theme!).
Vintage wedding dresses and accessories
Erica from Real Green Dress – whose dresses are all genuine vintage pieces – was launching her own unique wedding dress designs crafted from re-purposed and vintage materials. This tied in perfectly with our reclamation and transformation theme. All the shoes and accessories are genuine vintage pieces as well.
We combined this with a vintage frock coat and waistcoasts from Bartlett and Butcher. The lovely Hannah from Bartlett and Butcher spent four hours fitting the suits to our model David! The furniture and accessories we used are all bespoke pieces from Graham’s Findings, who use reclaimed and re-purposed materials. For example, some of the lamps were made out of an old VW Beetle.
A bouquet of lush fruit foliage and peach coloured roses
Alice from Meadowfolk used her own flowers plus foraged blossom and twigs covered in lichen to create her floral pieces. These included a stunning bouquet, table arrangements, a foliage garland, flower crown, buttonhole and hair flowers:
“I think foliage is just as important as the flowers, so I tend to use foliage as a ‘feature’ rather than just a ‘filler’ which is most usually considered. May is such a wonderful time for flowers and foliage as everything is springing into life, and is such a lovely fresh, unblemished green.
In this bouquet I grew all the foliage myself, and chose (thornless) raspberry foliage, for its very spring-like cheerful green leaves and teeny tiny raspberries at their very beginnings of growing. The dainty raspberries, fuzzy and green, give texture to the bouquet.
I also used blackcurrant foliage, which smells strongly of blackcurrants and has tiny unripe green blackcurrants which look almost jewel-like and dangle beautifully. It’s important to me to include seasonal pieces in bouquets, to give the brides something interesting and unusual to look at as they nervously wait to walk down the isle, and to include things that move with the bride; grasses, large leaf foliage, petaled roses – all dance when carried, and enhance the beauty of the bride.
On the table I used a variety of roses, lisianthus, sweet peas, nigella, astilbe, achillea and peach coloured foxgloves. The blush tones looked at home amongst their copper containers and neither were fighting for attention, as copper has peachy pink tones to it in certain lights and so completely complemented each other. The fresh green foliage kept the display looking springlike, seasonal and fresh.
Relaxed romantic wedding hair styles with flowers
To create the flower crown, Alice from Meadowfolk used a base of wax flower, lisianthus, white nigella, rice flower. She also included a few little plump gooseberries too to hang prettily from the crown: “they were just too sweet to not include – and they tied in with the other fruiting plants I’d used throughout.”
In the beautiful plaited hairstyle below, Alice used white waxflowers which are great for just being placed into the hair without even needing to be wired. They have the added bonus for hair flowers because because they don’t wilt and their lovely straight stems don’t break.
From relaxed boho wedding to a more formal bridal style
To direct the photoshoot, we created a little background story. The first part featured the bride and groom in a more boho relaxed style for the morning “ceremony” – the tweed jacket, no tie, and a floaty wedding dress.
Then, in-keeping with our transformation theme, the couple changed into more formal bridal wear for the “afternoon”. So we chose a more structured wedding dress for the bride, and a top hat and frock coat for the groom. We felt it was a nice idea to show how couples could change from a relaxed look to a more formal one on their wedding day, or vice versa.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this beautiful natural organic wedding inspiration from a fab team of wedding suppliers. You can find details of all those involved with this photoshoot below if anything took your fancy. There were so many details to love and they all came together to create a beautiful look.
My favourites had to include those exquisite blue and copper wedding cakes handpainted with foxgloves, and the wedding bouquet with all that foliage in lush spring greens against the delicate flowers.
If you liked the florals in this photoshoot, they reminded me of this bohemian hellebore wedding inspiration shoot we shared. For those who love the copper touches, Chloe and Sam’s modern spring woodland wedding featured hints of gold in a similar way against lush green foliage and romantic florals. Finally, we work with lots of fab wedding venues that either offer barn wedding venues or meadow wedding venues much like that seen here.
