Devon woodland cherish the dress photoshoot

Back in September, Sarah from The Woodland Shelter in Devon decided to host a ‘cherish the dress’ (or ‘trash the dress’ depending on your inclination!) photoshoot in the woodlands around their ceremony venue.  She invited a couple of real brides to come and wear their wedding dresses again and have some photographs taken by a local photographer.

The Woodland Shelter wedding venue Devon

The Woodland Shelter is a registered wedding venue situated deep within woods in North Devon and is perfect for couples wanting a woodland ceremony, something a little different, an intimate gathering, and one that is a little greener.  The ‘cherish the dress’ photoshoot gives you a glimpse at the beautiful woodland available for wedding photos – including a gentle river.

Special offer on natural mineral make-up and top tips on how to apply it

Charlie

natural wedding makeup

I am a complete convert to mineral make-up after wearing it for our wedding, so it is lovely to be able to tell you that Purity Cosmetics currently have a special offer price of £9 per jar on their Purity Mineral Foundation.

Purity Cosmetics use only the finest quality minerals to create their ‘good for your skin’ mineral make-up, and all their products are completely paraben, chemical and additive free.  Mineral make-up is also great for people suffering from problem skin, such as sensitive skin and acne.

Purity Cosmetics Mineral Foundation

Their mineral foundation comes in nine shades to suit all skin types, from ivory for porcelain skin all the way to mocha which is suitable for dark skin tones.  I spoke to Emily who runs Purity Cosmetics to get some top tips for applying mineral foundation.

Top tips for applying mineral foundation

“We would always recommend starting with clean, well moisturised skin.  For the best results, use a flocked sponge to buff the foundation onto your skin, gently building up the layers to achieve a flawless look.

Firstly, tip some mineral foundation into the lid, then gather up a small amount on your flocked sponge applicator and buff onto your skin.  The trick is to buff, buff and buff some more!  You really only need a small amount to start with, then for more coverage build up gradually.  You will notice a lovely sheer, flawless finish.”

My favourite picks from CRED Jewellery’s ethical engagement rings

Charlie

CRED Jewellery are one of the latest businesses to join The Natural Wedding Company jewellery, and after having a browse through their beautiful collection, I wanted to share my favourites with you all.  For all those boys out there looking for an engagement ring to propose then keep your eyes peeled.  Here are my favourites…

CRED Jewellery fairtrade sapphire engagement ring

If you’re looking for something a bit different and unusual there is this beautiful Liana teal sapphire set vines engagement ring.  The sapphire is ethically sourced from Malawi, and the band is made from Oro Verde™ 18ct yellow fairtrade gold.  It is designed by celebrity jewellery designer Sophie Harley.

CRED Jewellery fairtrade diamond engagement ring

I love their Brilliant cut diamond stacker engagement ring because it’s similar to my own engagement ring.  At its centre is  single conflict-free fully traceable 0.10ct diamond and it’s available in both Fairtrade and Fairmined 18ct yellow gold and 18ct white gold, or in platinum from their partners Oro Verde™.

Vintage bottle shaped candles for your wedding table centrepieces

Charlie

vintage bottle shaped candles

There are some truly wonderful and, in my opinion, sheer genius, ideas out there – these candles that have been shaped to look like a variety of old bottles and jars are one of those genius ideas.  Made from beeswax to give that golden yellow honey colour (and an equally beautiful smell when lit), I think they would be a beautiful alternative to floral table centrepieces, especially on long tables where you could arrange them with their varying heights.

The downside?  They don’t seem to be available to buy anymore!  They are created by Anthropologie (creators of many a beautiful, and expensive, item) but I they don’t appear on the website any longer.  It is a travesty.  I hope someone else starts making and selling something similar, preferably in the UK please!
