Days-gone-by wedding dress inspiration – living out a bit of those little girl dreams

Charlie

heirloom inspired wedding dresses

Were you one of those little girls who dreamt of living in a different era?  I was.  For a long time I desperately wanted my parents to buy a cottage in the middle of nowhere, and I would wear Little House on the Prairie style dresses and a pinny, and wander round with a chicken under my arm.  At least that’s what I dreamt of.

I’ve always loved period dramas, from Pride and Prejudice to Little Women I loved them all and dreamt of wearing those beautiful dresses.  I think your wedding day is one of the only days that as an average woman you get to live out a little bit of those dreams and wear a stunning dress – a dress that makes you feel inside how you used to feel imagining you were one of those girls from days-gone-by.

The joys of having a photographer husband-to-be!  If you’re the lovely Lisa, one of my blog readers, it means you can make pretty wedding details and get great pictures of them – which in turn means lovely photos to share with you all.

Lisa was inspired by my own rustic ‘save the dates’ and got in touch to share hers – I think they are so beautiful and they incorporate a really neat extra that Lisa found on this blog whilst searching for inspiration – a twine knot.

Charlie

alternative save the date idea

This fun and alternative ‘save the date’ was sent to me by Simone of Welsh Green Weddings – this bride- and groom-to-be are getting married next spring at Welsh Green Weddings.  A really simple idea for how to make a ‘save the date’ – you could either email them, print them out at home on recycled card or get them printed as photos and stick them to recycled card.

Winter hair garland of wax flowers and ivy

Charlie

wax flower and ivy garland

If you’re planning a winter wedding for 2012 and you fancy something quite earthy and in tune with the natural world, then this gorgeous hair garland of wax flowers and ivy would fit in wonderfully.  Whether it was worn by your bridesmaids, or yourself (I could only dream of being gutsy enough to pull it off), it would certainly add to that ‘mid-winter’ feel.

I’m imagining something along the lines of roaring log fires, mugs of hot mulled cider and lots of ivy hung everywhere…very Robin Hood.  I think these flower garlands would be equally at home at a wedding held at country house hotel. It’s such a beautiful combination of greenery and flowers.

Charlie

vintage inspired engagement shoot

The last couple of weeks have seen some wonderful and exciting emails pop into my inbox, and this eco-chic engagement shoot organised by ethical wedding consultant Clarisse Elysée, was one of those beautiful ones.

Recently engaged, Kimberley and Troy were inspired by 1950s jazz icon’s such as Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, and although a little daunted to start with soon embraced the theme and relaxed into the photoshoot.

Woodland and seaside engagement shoot with antique engagement ring and muddy wellies

Charlie

Today it’s a blog special, with an exclusive photoshoot from photography Kelly Weech.  It’s a sweet engagement photoshoot of Lydia and Ben who planning a Devon wedding that reflects their love of the outdoors.  The photoshoot took place in woodland near to their home and on the beach where Lydia proposed to Ben – I love it all ready!

What I think is down-right wonderful about these photos is that the couple seem so genuine.  These are photos of a couple very much in love, captured in the places they are at home and comfortable in.  The pretty details in this shoot are an out-of-this-world beautiful antique engagement ring and a cute dog.

Original fabric ‘save the date’ idea with personalised ribbon hanger

Charlie

Today we have more fab ideas for wedding projects shared by one of my readers, Gemma, who writes Blossom Bells.  Gemma created these sweet ‘save the dates’ inspired by a tutorial she saw in the July issue of Sew Hip magazine, written by Lilipopo.

Gemma, who is currently planning her wedding, decided to make these hanging fabric ‘save the dates’ from linen and a pretty back (that you can’t see) from organic cotton from the Cloud9 range.  You can also buy organic fabrics from Organic Cotton.

Gemma designed a heart and bird shape, but also did a bat because both her and her husband-to-be have wildlife-related jobs – a fun way to incorporate your interests into your wedding.

Next Gemma stamped their wedding date onto the plain linen side using a custom stamp from The English Stamp Company with a water based screen printing ink.  Another lovely touch from Gemma is making the hanging tags from ribbon with their wedding website link on it.  That way your guests can find out details about your upcoming wedding.

Pretty vintage inspired save the date magnets

Charlie

It is so wonderful being allowed to share other handmade wedding projects from my readers.  Today’s exquisitely created ‘save the dates’ are made a Creative Designer, so those of us looking at them thinking ‘I wish I could be that creative on the computer’ – this lady is skilled and talented and it’s what she does for a living.

Jess, the bride-to-be, used a badge maker to create the front of the magnets, and attached a magnet to the back.  I love this idea that your family and friends can stick it onto their fridge at home to remind them.

On top of making the magnets, Jess also designed and made the packaging!  She bought the card and other materials from Hobbycraft – don’t they look sweet all parceled up?

An eco-friendly beach wedding with natural handmade decorations

Charlie

Today I have some beautiful inspiration for anyone planning an eco-friendly, rustic beach wedding.  Lucy Dyer is a wedding planner who has a really hands-on approach, often making table plans and seating cards as well as doing the decor.  She created this castaway, rustic island inspired wedding at a beachside restaurant.

The brief from the couple was lots of natural decor, no plastic and manmade products – they wanted it organic and natural.  Lucy spent months gathering driftwood and shells from the surrounding beaches, which she used to decorate the venue.
