Wedding flower styling with garden roses, hawthorn, and autumn fruits by Fletcher & Foley

I can hardly believe that Christmas is so near now!  This year has gone by in such a whirlwind for me what with having little Tilly at the end of the summer, and I imagine all of your brides- and grooms-to-be who are getting hitched next summer will be feeling like it’s not long now once the New Year is upon us.

Today I have another lovely treat from one of our recommended wedding suppliers.  This guest post has been put together by Joanne of Fletcher & Foley (a fab Manchester based florist) using the same selection of flowers and foliage, but in three quite different styles: Rustic, Vintage, and ‘Wedstival’.  I love the selection of old pots Joanne’s used for the vintage styling, but I most like her use of colour for the ‘Wedstival’ theme, perfect for all of you inspired by summer festivals for your wedding day.

Over to Joanne…

Get the look

Getting the styling right for your wedding can be a daunting prospect.  So much to think of.  In fact writing this blog I’m a little worried myself  as to where to start.  Ok, let’s start with a little inspiration, and this can come from anywhere.  Without rambling too much, a visit from my mother-in-law means a whole heap of glossy magazines will be left behind.  A trend piece in Vogue.  It screams autumn.

Inspiration for wedding flowers from magazines

Using key words may help.  For this little project I’m going to break it down into three wedding trends.  Rustic, Vintage and Wedstival.

See what we’re doing here?  Building up a picture of the overall feel for the big day by taking it slowly. Not getting bogged down in too much detail. No micro managing. Giving yourself a break so you can enjoy it.

The flowers

From a florist’s viewpoint, it doesn’t matter if you know nothing about flowers.  Give us some idea of colour and seasonality or if you prefer a particular flower and let us do the work.  Or even just tell us what you don’t like. That can often guide us in the right direction too.

I used the following flowers and foliage for the three wedding themes: Amaranthus, Dahlia, Free Spirit and Coffee Break Roses, Sedum, Hydrangea, Elder Berries, Nigella (Love in the Mist), Rosemary, Aster, Cornflower, Eryngium, Hawthorn, Scabious Seed Head, Mokara orchid, Rowan, and Virginia Creeper.

TNWC Real Brides Married! Caroline’s back to tell us all about her laid back eco-friendly farm wedding

Charlie

We’ve had a little break from our TNWC Real Brides but we’re back today with the lovely Caroline who got married back in May.  Along with her now husband Gareth, they planned a beautiful and laid back wedding on their farm in Nottinghamshire.  It has been a long time coming but I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading about her day and soon I hope to share her official wedding photos.

Over to Caroline…

Wow – has it really been 6 months since our wedding day!  I really can’t quite believe how much time has flown, and in some ways, our day seems like a lifetime ago, but in others it feels like yesterday!

I know everyone says that your wedding day is the best day of your life, but it really, really is!  We had the most magical day right from the second we woke up and it wasn’t raining (hooray!!) until we finally stopped dancing at 2am, and were whisked away to a secret location for our first night as Mr and Mrs Stafford.

Caroline and Gareth's eco-friendly farm wedding

The days leading up to the wedding were heaps of fun and not nearly as stressful as I had feared they might be!  I left my little shop in the capable hands of mum and my now mother-in-law and had the whole week to get things ready.

In the months before our big day, apart from cleaning the barn (which to be fair was a fairly big job!!) Gareth had a pretty easy ride of it, but in the last week, bless him, I don’t think he managed to get much sleep! 400 metres of bunting was hung, along with 400 metres of fairy lights and about 100 paper pom poms and he spent most days up on the roof of the barn trying to repair a few leaky spots (the forecast for our wedding day was looking pretty dismal) and around all of this he had 500 cows to milk every day!

The day before the wedding was full on from the crack of dawn – Karen from Darby and Joan arrived at 8am to help start dressing the barn, and within an hour the transformation was already looking pretty special.  The only word to describe Karen was ‘amazing.’

A handmade bride’s guide to growing your own wedding flowers for a rustic country garden feel from Lucy Says I Do

Wedding flowers in old oil drums

We’re back today with the lovely Lucy from Lucy Says I Do, who is sharing with us some of the wonderful DIY projects from her own country wedding.  If you missed her first guest blog on designing and creating her bridesmaids dresses, do check it out here. Over to Lucy…

We wanted to embrace the location of the wedding and play with the English Country Garden idea.  I love flowers and plants that are found in wild flower meadows and old walled gardens, and I wanted to incorporate these into our wedding.  We were also heavily inspired by the wonderful Petersham Nurseries, and their beautiful plants and flowers.

We decorated the area outside of the marquee with a multitude of plants and flowers, many of which we grew from seedlings specifically for the wedding.  We decided on the plants and flowers we wanted, and made sure they were likely to be flowering or at least alive at the time of the wedding and set to work planting and potting them up.

TNWC South West Roadtrip Day 6: visiting the studio of Charlie Scribble

I can’t believe that I only have two days left of visiting businesses on the TNWC South West Roadtrip (Sunday is my day off with family) – it has been an incredible week so far and I hope that you’ve enjoyed reading about my adventures.

Yesterday I had a pretty chilled day, which at nearly 29 weeks pregnant I was in need of after the busy week I’ve had.  I headed from the south coast of Cornwall, across the county to just outside Wadebridge too meet up with Flo from Charlie Scribble.  Flo creates beautiful wedding stationery with a very distinct style that incorporates her beautiful illustrations.

TNWC South West Roadtrip Day 3: Lantallack Weddings with Lucy Turnbull Photography

Charlie

I hope you are all enjoying following along with my TNWC South West Roadtrip – I’m only three days and loving it.  It has been such a pleasure and a real treat to visit these wedding businesses and find out more about who they are and what they do.  I can quite honestly say there are some real gems out there for anyone planning their wedding, so get looking through the directory to find some fabulous suppliers.

After a rather busy Day 2 of the TNWC Roadtrip, yesterday was a bit more relaxed with just one visit scheduled for the day.  Like Day 2 I was joined by a TNWC wedding photographer, this time is was Lucy Turnbull, whose photos these are.  I momentarily got lost down a very narrow high-hedged Cornish lane, but soon realised my mistake and found the very beautiful Lantallack Weddings.

TNWC South West Roadtrip Day 2: JW Blooms, Cowparsley Weddings and Bespoke Confetti with Jennie Hill Photography

Charlie

JW Blooms locally grown flowers

I’ve had another wonderful day out on the second day of my TNWC South West Roadtrip – today I’ve visited three fabulous wedding businesses and been joined for my adventure by Jennie Hill and her camera.  Today you are just getting my camera phone snaps as soon I’ll be sharing Jennie’s gorgeous pictures of our visits.

JW Blooms

My first stop of the day was the flower field of JW Blooms, a Somerset based small business growing beautiful flowers for weddings.  Jan has an acre sized plot with about two-thirds of this used for growing flowers.  It is utterly charming and as a big flower lover I always feel a little bit jealous wandering amongst rows and rows of pretty flowers.

For brides who book Jan to do their wedding flowers, the consultation process involves a visit the week before your wedding to wander the flower field, see what’s blooming, and pick what you’d like for your arrangements.  I can’t think of many more lovely things to do!

Wow – what a start to my trip!  I’m writing this on Sunday evening, so I’ll be sharing with you this morning what I got up to on the first day of my TNWC South West Roadtrip yesterday.  Hope that makes sense!

I set off from home at lunchtime with a three hour drive ahead of me to Somerset.  My first stop on the TNWC South West Roadtrip was Huntstile Organic Farm – a beautiful wedding venue set in the rolling Somerset countryside.  This wasn’t my first visit to Huntstile, so I’m mainly just going to share with you some pictures I took today – if you’d like to read more about what I think of Huntstile check out my previous visit.

This was Huntstile yesterday, looking super pretty in the sunshine, flowers blooming everywhere, and buzzing with people.

Rustic festive dessert tables from And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon for a cosy winter wedding

Charlie

Christmas wedding dessert table

It is increasingly popular at weddings to have a whole table of cakes or desserts rather than a single traditional tiered wedding cake; I had my own with cakes made by our wedding guests, and recently I shared this beautiful new wedding dessert table service from TNWC business And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon.

Well, Anna and her team from And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon are back with a festive version, ideal for a winter wedding or Christmas wedding – I was instantly in-love with this dreamy display of cakes, pies, and desserts.  All of them are handmade at their bakery in Manchester and they even come and style the table for you, so it looks this beautiful.

I’m going to be taking inspiration from this for my Christmas celebrations!

Anna told me a bit more about this festive cake service: “We wanted to take our standard dessert tables and add a festive twist – if you have a winter wedding we can offer a spread that is delicious and decadent in equal measure!  You can treat your friends and family to a range of treats, from delicious mince pies made with our own homemade mincemeat recipe, to the very decadent pear and whiskey tart, or pecan and bourbon brownies.”

Well, without further ado, I am delighted to share with you all the fantastic pictures from this photoshoot as well as introducing you to a fab new business who’s just joined the directory.

I’m no stranger to And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon, a fabulous cakeshop and cafe in a trendy suburb of Manchester.  I’ve enjoyed some fabulous events held in their tearoom after hours, from the fabulous An Era of Experience press launch party to the Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe bridal workshop, I’ve also enjoyed countless chocolate milkshakes and brownies on lazy afternoons with Mr Rigg and friends.

Rustic postcard save the dates with stamped lettering on recycled brown card

Brown card rustic save the dates

Oooh I do love a great but simple idea, and this one is just downright fab.  I know there is a huge following for rustic brown recycled wedding stationery on this blog (there’s lots of you after my own heart and I love it), so I’m pretty sure this design will interest a few of you.

Designed by the very talented Allie Ruth, this is a postcard sized save the date, very simply stamped on one side with the words ‘Save the Date’, and on the back the basic details such as date and place, along with space for your guests address and a stamp.  The white lace motifs were also stamped on.

What’s brilliant, is that Allie Ruth has a fab Etsy shop where you can buy that lovely ‘Save the Date’ stamp, complete with arrow struck heart, plus she also does custom address stamps should you be looking for a new ‘Mr and Mrs’ style return address stamp.
