Natural handmade corn lover’s knots, hearts and horseshoes for an eco-friendly country wedding

Charlie

natural corn crafted wedding knot

These pretty handcrafted corn hearts, lover’s knots and horseshoes are the latest items available from the Wedding in a Teacup online shop – aren’t they beautiful?  I am always at risk of over-using the word ‘natural’ here, but I do love how ‘natural’ these items are, and according to Hester from Wedding in a Teacup they have centuries of British rural tradition behind them.

If you’re planning an autumn wedding I can’t imagine many things more lovely than these to decorate your ceremony or reception venue with.  In fact, it was my family church decorated for the harvest festival that inspired how I wanted the church to feel for our wedding – among other details, they used two big milk churns outside filled with dried corn, we used those same milk churns but filled with cow parsley for our wedding.  You could also give them as wedding favours.

Announcing the winner of the Catkin Flowers competition to win a place on the cut flower growing and arranging workshop

Charlie

It’s been lovely announcing all these lucky winner’s over the past few weeks, but today’s competition winner is particular exciting because I’ll get to meet them!  Myself and Rachel from Catkin Flowers have collaborated to put on an exclusive TNWC cut flower growing and arranging course, and one lucky person is winning a free place.

Rachel found it incredibly difficult to select a winner from all the lovely entries, but if you did enter and aren’t the lucky winner who’s name is below, you can still join us for the course.  Shortly I will be posting details of how you can book your discounted place on this exclusive course, where you’ll get to learn about how to start a cutting garden and how to arrange with cut flowers.

A huge congratulations to Nik – we will be in touch about your free place on the course and look forward to meeting you.  Rachel loved that Nik wanted to learn how to grow cut flowers to give to her family and friends, and that she could see the benefits of cutting garden to local wildlife – hopefully after coming on the workshop Nik will be able to get growing!

Vintage jelly moulds become chic clay tealight holders in the hands of potter Tom Gloster

Charlie

vintage jelly mould tealights by Tom Gloster

I told you I had some beautiful finds and inspiration to share with you – just think I’ve been keeping these things to myself all this time!  Aren’t I terrible?  When I spotted these stunning handmade jelly mould tealights it was love at first sight and I will be most definitely treating myself to a couple in the near future.

They are handmade in clay by potter Tom Gloster in his workshop garden shed in Wales, where he also runs a charming looking coffee and craft shop called Pethau Melys with textile designer Myfanwy Griffiths.  When I saw them I instantly got in touch with Tom to find out more about these endearing little tealights.

Pethau Melys

Tom told me how the jelly mould tealights came about.  “I like to find things that have one use and change the use by making them out of clay.  The jelly molds are a line of work that have been inspired from vintage metal jelly moulds, which I found when helping my mum.
