With six days to go…we are packing up to head south

Charlie

This is the far less glamorous side of planning your own DIY and handmade wedding

All matter of vintage ephemera, craft supplies, paint, and old bits and bobs must make their way from Cheshire to Gloucestershire.  Today.  With a dog and two people in tow.  Help!

And this is what I’ve already taken down last week…

Our wedding venue (my parents house) is still in a state of renovation and redecorating just one week before our ‘big day’

Charlie

Our wedding reception is taking place at my parents house.  Last summer my parents decided to add an extension to their house at the same time my dad decided to go back to Uni to study to be a teacher.

I made a flying visit on Monday to drop off a carload of stuff for the wedding, and the house isn’t quite ready to welcome 70 guests a week on Saturday.  Still to do is painting, grouting, and a wash basin and lights to be fitted.  And those are just the things I can remember!

However, my parents are great and on top of work and everyday life they are redecorating and getting the garden looking as pretty as possible.  They have even had a gate installed at the end of their garden so that our guests can walk through the field and into the garden after the church ceremony.

Above you’ll see their dog Alfie with the smart new railings and gate.

Flower arranging workshop for green brides-to-be using seasonal spring blooms

Charlie

A couple of weeks ago my mom and I went on a lovely flower arranging workshop hosted by Jo and Rachel of Green & Gorgeous Flowers.

Not only was it great to meet Jo and Rachel, but we also learnt some fab tips on how to arrange garden grown flowers – perfect as in a week’s time we’ll be doing all the flowers for my wedding.

Green & Gorgeous Flowers is based on a dairy farm in a truly beautiful part of Oxfordshire.  They have a barn where the workshop was held, a smaller studio filled to the brim with vintage crockery, and about 2 and a half acres of flowers.

Create your own vintage bridal look with a ‘how to’ guide from Clare at Pure Pampering

Charlie

The lovely Clare Bryce from Pure Pampering has sent us this fabulous ‘how to’ guide to create this stunning vintage bridal look yourself.  Clare used Pure Anada mineral makeup, which are natural and great for your skin, to create this romantic and modern feel for her vintage look.

Clare believes that the eyes are where most focus should be for bridal makeup, so after applying Pure Anada mineral foundation in Ivory Chinook, a little Sunflower correcting concealer under the eyes, and a light dusting of Matte powder to match the model’s porcelain skin tone, here’s how she created those smokey eyes…

Weekend wedding planning – my dress fitting, makeup trial and a visit to talk flowers

Charlie

Last weekend was full of the joys of planning a wedding – my wedding, to be exact, which is less than 9 weeks away!  On Friday I met with Pati and Vanessa from The Garden & Plant Company, enjoying the sunshine and their little shop filled with the fragrance of hyacinths and the colours of spring.

Here’s an example of one of their spring buttonholes…

I spent the evening with my little sister going through lots of old baby photos in an attempt to select some to be displayed at our wedding.  It was lovely to reminisce and find cute photos like this…yes, that’s me…

Saturday morning my mom, sister and I headed off to Cheltenham for one of my final dress fittings.  You’ll have to stay tuned to find out details of where I’m getting my gorgeous wedding dress from, but it is such a treat to go to there and soak up the atmosphere of this very special place.

My winter woodland hen party

Charlie

I can’t believe that my hen party was nearly two weeks ago now – where does the time go!  It was organised by two friends of mine, with a lovely lunch and afternoon tea, but the main part was a gorgeous woodland walk before having hot chocolate with marshmallows in a bell tent deep in the wood.  It was perfect.

A big thank you to May and Jane for organising it, and to my friends Maria, Sophia, Kate and my mom and sister Izzy for coming to share the afternoon with me.  It was lovely knowing nothing about what was planned, and a really special way to celebrate getting married.

Get smouldering eyes with Pure Anada Mineral Cosmetics

Charlie

The lovely Clare of Pure Pampering has created a fantastic autumnal look that you can recreate yourself using gorgeous mineral cosmetics.

This look has been created by Clare Bryce, a professional makeup artist, who specialises in bridal styling and has attended 100’s of weddings!

Clare told me “Many brides love to have smoky eyes on their wedding day, this beautiful look is super stylish but will also have your groom captivated when he looks into your eyes!”

Get the look…

Start with sweeping a pale shade of eye shadow all over your  eyelid, then work your mid shade shadow into the crease and blend.

To add the smouldering effect, add a black eye shadow into the outside corner.  Add black eye liner to the top and lower lash line. Finishing with two coats of black mascara.
