What a lovely treat we have for you today – the elegant eco garden wedding of our colleague Joanna. She’s been busy writing up the beautiful real weddings we get sent to be featured, but today we are taking a look at her own stunning wedding.

Think bouquets of coral peonies and blue delphiniums, a riverside marquee, and a steel pan band for this elegant eco garden wedding. Lots of thought went into taking care of their guests, from an ice cream van to wood-fired pizzas in the evening. Together with their family and friends, Joanna and Dan put lots of love into their wedding, keeping it eco-friendly in the most elegant way.

Over to Joanna to tell us more about their beautiful and elegant eco garden wedding…

Spring Eco Wedding Festival with a cherry blossom chandelier and rustic tablescapes from Wedding Yurts

I have had the pleasure of knowing Lizzie from Wedding Yurts for nearly five years now, and everything she creates is pure magic. When I heard she was putting on an Open Week in Herefordshire, I knew I want to visit, to see what delights she had been dreaming up, and to catch up (as best you can with a two and a half year old in tow).

I wasn’t disappointed. My little girl had a magical time running around this beautiful rural spot at Wye Valley Weddings and I soaked up the atmosphere inside Lizzie’s stunning yurts, with their wooden floors and rustic decorations.

As part of their Open Week, Lizzie had pulled together some incredible teams of suppliers to create so inspirational wedding shoots. One of those shoots was a Spring Eco Wedding Festival with a down-to-earth natural style, and featuring wedding suppliers who all weave an eco-friendly ethos into their business. I particular love the simple but striking table design with terracotta pots of herbs and those tiny chai bowls holding tealights.

Lizzie’s work is the kind of style I’d like to have at my own wedding or party, so I’m sure you’ll be as inspired as I am by today’s Spring Eco Wedding Festival shoot.

Lizzy and Graeme’s country fete inspired Cheshire wedding with vintage ice cream van and cottage garden flowers

To describe this wedding at a country fete inspired wedding is really to do it a disservice, because it is so much more than just that. The bride, Lizzy, told me that her photographers “truly captured the happiness and love felt”, a wish that I imagine most of us have for our wedding day. Lizzy has put into words so many of those feelings we have in the lead up to our wedding day, so if you are a bride-to-be then I encourage you to stop a while and read as well as soak up all the pretty details.

For an overview of this beautiful wedding this slideshow put together by photographers Bohemian Weddings gives you a little of the magic these two shared on their wedding day, and includes lots of extras captures. A lovely alternative to a wedding film, and I get all teary watching it despite not knowing these two…

As a quick aside, you might also notice that we’ve changed up the format of our real weddings a bit, we have crafted a new questionnaire for our couples which we hope gives them more freedom to tell us the story of their wedding in their own words. For this reason I imagine that the appearance of these features will change from wedding to wedding, but I’m sure you’ll agree that it will truly allow the stories to shine through.

Lizzy + Graeme, July 2015

So many of the real weddings I share have extra special meaning to me, and today’s wedding is no exception. I was contacted by Lizzy after her wedding photographer cancelled just 8 weeks before her wedding, asking if I could help. After I emailed all of the wonderful wedding photographers in our directory, Lizzy received over a dozen replies, and from those she fell in love with one couple – Michael and Andrea of Bohemian Weddings. I understand the four of them really connected and I am just so delighted to be now sharing Lizzy and Graeme’s wedding with you. Over to Lizzy…

A ‘how to’ guide to making frozen flower ice bowls with seasonal British blooms

Charlie

Ice flower bowl

I don’t know about where you are, but it’s flipping freezing here!  With these frosty days in mind, I wanted to share with you these beautiful ice bowl creations made by Anne-Marie at Forage For (she also grows flowers in her Suffolk garden for weddings so do check her out if you’re getting hitched in that part of the country).

Anne-Marie has been making these wonderful frozen ice bowls using her seasonal British flowers to decorate them.  I love this idea and it’s so simple to create (just scroll down for the instructions) and could be made at any time through the year.  Whether you made them for your wedding or for a party, I’m sure they would cause a bit of a stir!

Bowls made from frozen flowers

Can’t you just imagine these as focal points on a dessert table filled with ice cream or a larger version could even keep your drinks cool.   Anne-Marie filled this yellow chrysanthemum ice bowl with lemon sorbet to show you how they can be used.

Whimsical rose flower crown

Aren’t you just in-love with this gorgeous flower crown creation, it’s so soft and romantic!

One of the lovely businesses listed in the directory, Fletcher and Foley, shared with me this beautiful collaborative photoshoot from a group of North West based wedding businesses – just wait ’til you see the flower crown!

Joanne from Fletcher and Foley told me that the day was planned to be “a gorgeous, romantic outdoors shoot” at Sandhole Oak Barn in Cheshire but last minute the vision was changed due to terrible weather – I think they did a fab job and I’m sure you’ll find some inspiration.

Our rustic country wedding – ice cream in the church yard

Charlie

It is terrible to toot your own trumpet, but this is one of the ideas that we had for our wedding that I was so pleased with.  Nick and I love our food and love supporting local producers, so we always knew this was going to be woven throughout our wedding.  There were moments we worried we might be overfeeding people!

We have a wonderful local farm to where we live in Cheshire that makes its own ice cream – we practically live off the stuff.  Somehow we wanted to incorporate this into our wedding day, and the only place we could think of when people might need something to eat and break up any standing around was after the ceremony.

So we set about creating our own ice cream stall that would greet our family and friends as they exited the church.  We commandeered a nice old trestle table from my parents, which meant we didn’t need to cover it.

Nick built a wooden cone holder by drilling holes into a plank of wood and attaching legs to it.  Then I painted it with leftover paints (tester pots are great for small projects).

Your help needed – where do I start with blogging about our wedding?

Charlie

1. Crafty DIY paper items
2. Collecting cow parsley
3. Sign painting
4. Jam jar lantern making

So I’m completely overwhelmed by the magnitude of trying to share photos and details of our wedding.  I just don’t know where to start and decided the best option would be to ask where you think I should start.

Today we have finally seen the ‘official’ photographs taken by Mark Tattersall, which will obviously follow shortly (and are incredible!), but there were so many DIY projects, handmade elements, collecting of gorgeous treasures in the lead up to our wedding that I want to share those too.

I’ve included a selection of images here as examples (saving all my favourite bits for later).

5. Building an ice cream cone holder
6. Collecting old bits and pieces
7. Tiny flag making
8. Freshly washed vintage crockery
