Book your place on our cut flower growing and arranging workshop with Catkin Flowers

Charlie

Cut flower workshop

Back at the beginning of April I ran a competition in conjunction with Catkin Flowers to win a place on an upcoming (and exclusive to The Natural Wedding Company) cut flower growing and arranging course.  The very lucky Nik won the competition, but for those of you still keen to come there are an additional 8 places now available.

If you’d like to join myself, Nik, and Rachel from Catkin Flowers for a lovely day of learning how you can start your own cut flower garden and how to arrange with homegrown flowers, then read on…

Who’s the workshop for?

Have you ever dreamt of starting your own small cut flower garden?  A little patch where you can pick your own, homegrown flowers to put in bunches around your house?  Have you ever dreamt of learning how to arrange them in pretty bouquets, perhaps to give as gifts to family, or maybe for yours or a friends wedding?

If you answered yes to any of those then we’d love you join us on this workshop.  It’s also a great opportunity for readers of The Natural Wedding Company to get together for a fun day with like-minded people – whether you are married, engaged or just a lover of seasonal cut flowers.

An extraordinary evening at An Era of Experience – the wonderful new travelling vintage party

Charlie

An Era of Experience vintage party

There has been so much going on recently in my TNWC world that I can barely keep up – much of it very exciting.  Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to the press event that launched a fabulous new travelling vintage party called An Era of Experience.

Before I jump in to telling you all about my experience of An Era of Experience, I’d like to introduce you to the four talented ladies behind this collaboration.

They are Sharon, owner of vintage china and prop hire company For The Love Of Vintage; Bethany Jane Davies, the glamorous make-up artist behind The Vintage Beauty Parlour; Nicola, bespoke bridal accessories designer for Silver Sixpence in Her Shoe; and Anna, the baker and owner of boutique bakehouse And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon.

1920s Speakeasy vintage party

An Era of Experience combines glamorous vintage styling, Speakeasy cocktails served in teacups, boozy cakes and a chance to create your own era inspired headpiece.  If you’re planning your hen party then the ladies from An Era of Experience have got everything you need to create a wonderful celebration for you and your guests.

Vintage hen party

It’s always lovely to be invited to an event or party, but this one was particularly lovely as it’s a collaboration between a number of businesses, many of whom I’ve come to know really well through The Natural Wedding Company.

A spring birthday party to celebrate five years of The Natural Wedding Company

Charlie

Honey and lavender birthday cake

It is with great pleasure that I get to share with you the photographs from The Natural Wedding Company’s 5th birthday party that took place recently.  I’m not really sure where to start, so I’m just going to dive in and hope it all makes sense!

Spring lunch party

March saw the website’s 5th anniversary of when I first launched it, so I knew a few celebrations were in order.  As well as lots of exclusive offers and competitions on the blog, most excitingly, a party was dreamt up.

Hand-painted wedding favours

I wanted a party with a group of likeminded girls, some recently married, others still planning their wedding, so I opened up the invites to my wonderful readers.  My guests were chosen, invitations sent out, and on Sunday 15th April, my husband and I welcomed 11 of my lovely readers into my home for, what I hoped would be a fun afternoon of crafts, cake and wedding chatter.

The new heritage 1930s inspired jewellery collection from CRED Jewellery

1930s inspired Penelope Collection

It seems I’m having a bit of a 1920s and 1930s inspired day on the blog today, following on from this morning’s glamorous wedding cake I get to introduce you to the stunning new collection from CRED Jewellery.  The Penelope Collection from designer Annabel Panes was inspired by the cocktail drinking ladies of the 1920s and ’30s, in particular her own grandmother.

1930s inspired fair trade engagement ring

This fabulous 13-piece collection includes engagement rings, necklaces and earrings, all created from Fairtrade and Fairmined certified gold and each item set with ethically sourced gems.  I particularly love the deep and rich colours of the gems used, especially the Amethyst.

Niki from CRED Jewellery told me “Annabel has taken the elegance and glamour of the 1930’s and applied a modern twist.  The deep blues and reds of the precious stones are placed in delicate white gold settings that maximize their splendour and reflect the romantic elegance of the time.”

Natural handmade corn lover’s knots, hearts and horseshoes for an eco-friendly country wedding

Charlie

natural corn crafted wedding knot

These pretty handcrafted corn hearts, lover’s knots and horseshoes are the latest items available from the Wedding in a Teacup online shop – aren’t they beautiful?  I am always at risk of over-using the word ‘natural’ here, but I do love how ‘natural’ these items are, and according to Hester from Wedding in a Teacup they have centuries of British rural tradition behind them.

natural corn crafted wedding heart

If you’re planning an autumn wedding I can’t imagine many things more lovely than these to decorate your ceremony or reception venue with.  In fact, it was my family church decorated for the harvest festival that inspired how I wanted the church to feel for our wedding – among other details, they used two big milk churns outside filled with dried corn, we used those same milk churns but filled with cow parsley for our wedding.  You could also give them as wedding favours.

DIY tutorial to create your own wedding pomander ball using herbs and seasonal flowers from Jay Archer Floral Deisgn

Charlie

Jay Archer wedding flower pomander ball

I’ve got some lovely blog posts lined up for you, from real weddings to creative ‘how to’ guides – and today I’ve got a fantastic DIY tutorial created especially for you by Jay of Jay Archer Floral Design.  Jay has created this beautiful floral pomander ball using homegrown muscari and garden herbs, along side pretty white ranunculus.

So here’s over to Jay:

The pomander ball has been traditionally carried by flower girls and bridesmaids. However, a bride may also carry a pomander ball as a modern replacement to a traditional bouquet.  Making your own pomander ball is really quite easy.  Maybe spend an afternoon practising one with your Mum, friends and bridesmaids over a glass of vino or cup of char.

You could make a pomander from almost any flower; hydrangea florets, spray roses & rose buds and dahlia are just some examples. I would opt for smaller, more rounded flowers to give a better shape.

Charlie Scribble animated save the date

It’s Sunday and I thought I would share something a bit different to the normal inspiration-type posts.  This is an incredible animated ‘save the date’ from Charlie Scribble, one of the talented businesses you can find on the directory.  Charlie Scribble can bring your wedding stationery to life with their stop motion animations like this Padstow inspired ‘save the date’ they created for one couple…

As well as being incredibly cool and quirky, you eliminate the need to send out paper ‘save the dates’ to everyone, instead you can just email people the link, or if you have a wedding website you can embed the animation onto a page.  Visit Charlie Scribble to find out more about the animated stationery that they can offer you.

What goes into a wild and loose September wedding bouquet?

Charlie

wild and loose September bouquet from BareBlooms

I thought it would be nice to follow up from Rhiannon and Richard’s wild and natural Welsh wedding (it’s so beautiful – you must have a look if you haven’t seen it already) with more details of the wild looking bouquet Rhiannon carried.  The bouquet in question was created by the wonderful Chloe of BareBlooms who is featured in The Natural Wedding Company directory.

I got in touch with Chloe to find out exactly what flowers she used to create Rhiannon’s bouquet, and to find out what look she had been asked to create.  Chloe told me, “Rhiannon was so relaxed about her bouquet – she wanted something loose and wild and not too fussy.”

Rhiannon and Richard’s wild and natural Welsh wedding with a midnight canoe send-off

Wild and natural Welsh wedding

Wild and natural Welsh wedding

I’m in-love with today’s wedding for its laid-back and relaxed attitude – for me, Rhiannon and Richard seem to have really captured what your wedding day should really be about: love, family, friends, good company and delicious food.

They got married in September 2011 with a beautiful weekend-long wedding held at Fforest, just outside Cardigan in Wales.  Rhiannon and Richard really did their wedding their way – with no photographer, no over-the-top details, just lots of fun and a super relaxed weekend surrounded by their family and friends.

Tiny coastal Welsh church

Rhiannon is a freelance journalist who writes about all things green, community, and outdoor travel related, and Richard runs Greentraveller, so it’s not hard to see why their wedding embraced all things natural.

They got married at Mwnt Church, a tiny white building perched on the Welsh coast.  Rhiannon wore a oyster coloured dress from Donna Karan and carried a gorgeous bouquet of cornflowers and herbs.

BareBlooms wild and natural wedding bouquet

“My flowers were by Chloe at BareBlooms, who I found through The Natural Wedding Company, and were exactly what I wanted.  They were a mix of wild-looking flowers and herbs.”  The flowers for the buttonholes they picked themselves from the garden at Fforest.
