Our Top 10 Eco Valentine’s Day Gift Guide featuring ethical British businesses
Our 2017 Eco Valentine’s Day Gift Guide
Samantha and I are sharing our favourite finds for a possible Eco Valentine’s Day gift for your loved one – women, men, and even a gift from your little ones. We’ve stuck to all UK based businesses and artisans, most of them small independent businesses. You’ll also find we’ve tried to include ideas across a span of costs, with only one true ‘blow the budget’ gift.
In putting together this guide we discovered that neither of us celebrate Valentine’s Day in a big way. I’m sure lots of people choose to celebrate their love and gratitude towards each other on a daily basis. But for those who are looking to give something special or just a token of their love, here are some ideas.
Personalised Valentine’s Biscuits
The Kitsch Hen is run by a former TNWC Real Bride, Caroline (part one + part two of her wedding is not to be missed). Her iced biscuits are homemade from locally sourced ingredients, and all handstamped. We love this option because it can be personalised to a meaningful message – lyrics from ‘your’ song, a love quote from your favourite novel, or just a simple ‘I Love You’. A scrumptious Eco Valentine’s Day gift.
You Are My Favourite Valentine’s Day Card
Our friend Lucy Says I Do always has a fab offering of Valentine’s Day cards, and we love this design. Short and sweet, perfect for anyone not wanting to give an overly mushy card full of text. Printed onto FSC approved card and with a brown kraft envelope it’s a great card for the eco-chic.
Fairtrade Gold Heart Ruby Ring
This is for those who are looking for a truly luxurious gift, perhaps to mark a special occasion. This 18ct fairtrade gold heart-shaped ring from our friend Shakti Ellenwood is set with the most brilliant rubies. What a beautiful eco Valentine’s Day gift this would make for a loved one.
Luxurious Lavender Scented Sleep Mask
This gold silk sleep mask from make-up artist and holistic therapist Ellie Gill is perhaps what I’d choose for my Eco Valentine’s Day gift this year. It is scented with lavender, which I love for its ability to help me fall asleep easier on nights when my mind is racing.
Dark Chocolate Love Hearts
There can’t be many of us who didn’t love the childhood sweets ‘Love Hearts’?! In which case I’m sure you’ll agree with us that these dark chocolate – dare I say ‘grown up’ – version from Cocoa Loco would go down a treat. Made from Dominican Republic cocoa beans they are both fairtrade and organic.
Hipster Boys Botanical Pampering Kit
We feel like men are pretty hard to buy for, if anyone has any tips please share! This gift set from Ville de Fleurs contains an after shave spritzer and after shave balm, plus a choice of comb. We love that they’re made from natural botanicals, because think men want to avoid chemical ingredients too.
I Love You To The Moon And Back Plate
Hand screen printed in the UK, we love this sweet ‘I Love You To The Moon And Back’ plate, becautifully illustrated by designer OHNORachio. Organic chocolates or locally grown flowers make a wonderful Eco Valentine’s Day gift, but sometimes it’s nice to have a keepsake that lasts a little longer.
Botanical Heart Paper Garland
Eco Valentine’s Day gifts don’t have to be extravagant, and this paper heart garland from Peony & Thistle is a lovely example. Made from an up-cycled vintage book of botanical drawings, it would be perfect for decorating a corner of your home or work space.
Exotic Pink Himalayan and Rose Petal Bath Salts
It’s that time of year when you feel like your skin could do with a bit of TLC. We love the idea of a self indulgent soak in the bath and a luxurious scrub with these pink Himalayan salts from Lauryn’s Botanicals. They are an exotic blend of patchouli, may chang, lemon and ylang ylang essential oils and rose petals to float in your bath.
Mama and Papa Bear Enamel Pin Set
All three of us here at TNWC have become parents in the past few years, so it seemed only fitting to include a gift from our children. Not strictly an Eco Valentine’s Day gift, this pair of enamel ‘Mama’ and ‘Papa’ pins from Land and Furrow are super cute and super sweet. We also love that their available as ‘Mama’ and ‘Mama’ or ‘Papa’ and ‘Papa’ sets. Big thumbs up from us!
We hope you’ve enjoyed our Eco Valentine’s Day gift guide and perhaps even found a present for someone. Do consider supporting small, independent, British businesses with high ethical and eco credentials when gift giving this year.
