Flower arranging workshop for green brides-to-be using seasonal spring blooms

Charlie

A couple of weeks ago my mom and I went on a lovely flower arranging workshop hosted by Jo and Rachel of Green & Gorgeous Flowers.

Not only was it great to meet Jo and Rachel, but we also learnt some fab tips on how to arrange garden grown flowers – perfect as in a week’s time we’ll be doing all the flowers for my wedding.

Green & Gorgeous Flowers is based on a dairy farm in a truly beautiful part of Oxfordshire.  They have a barn where the workshop was held, a smaller studio filled to the brim with vintage crockery, and about 2 and a half acres of flowers.

Weekend wedding planning – my dress fitting, makeup trial and a visit to talk flowers

Charlie

Last weekend was full of the joys of planning a wedding – my wedding, to be exact, which is less than 9 weeks away!  On Friday I met with Pati and Vanessa from The Garden & Plant Company, enjoying the sunshine and their little shop filled with the fragrance of hyacinths and the colours of spring.

Here’s an example of one of their spring buttonholes…

I spent the evening with my little sister going through lots of old baby photos in an attempt to select some to be displayed at our wedding.  It was lovely to reminisce and find cute photos like this…yes, that’s me…

Saturday morning my mom, sister and I headed off to Cheltenham for one of my final dress fittings.  You’ll have to stay tuned to find out details of where I’m getting my gorgeous wedding dress from, but it is such a treat to go to there and soak up the atmosphere of this very special place.

Cornish seaside garden wedding with deck chairs, lawn games and a stunning yellow wedding dress

Charlie

Today I have a lovely Cornish wedding to share photographed by the talented Sarah Falugo of Green Photographic.  This beautiful wedding was held at Rosteague, with the ceremony in the summer house followed by lawn games and champagne overlooking the sea.

At the heart of this wedding was a relaxed day full of fun, with no strict timetable and plenty of time to play cricket and croquet and take a walk to the beach.  Plus the bride wore a stunning pale buttercup yellow dress and had the most unique bouquet.  I shall say no more…

A big congratulations to five of the flower businesses listed in the directory who were featured in The Independent’s ’50 Best Florists’ over the weekend.

It’s fantastic to see ethical businesses who either grow their own flowers in cutting gardens or who source local and seasonal blooms were prominent in the top 50 – all of them creating fabulous wedding flowers.  They were:

Blooming Green

Green and Gorgeous

Pick your own local and seasonal wedding flowers

Charlie

Blooming Green another of the lovely businesses listed on the directory, is offering their stressed out brides the chance to escape wedding preparations and to come and pick their own flowers!  What a fantastic idea!

Jen of Blooming Green tells me it was really popular in 2010 and has been a great way to for couples to have beautiful, seasonal and locally grown wedding flowers on a budget.

You can visit their website www.bloominggreenflowers.co.uk or email theshed@bloominggreenflowers.co.uk for more information.

Blooming Green is located in Kent, so if you’re looking for local, seasonal flowers a little closer to you then check out the ‘Flowers’ section on the directory for a full list of companies around the UK.

Vintage inspired bouquets and buttonholes

Charlie

Having discovered that Charlie Ryrie has posted some great images of the vintage inspired bouquet and buttonholes she made for me on her blog, I thought I should share them with you.  A new camera is on my Christmas wish list!

This is the beautiful bouquet – a gorgeous mixture of pinks, peaches and purples in a wide variety of flowers.  At The Vintage Wedding Fair so many people commented on how they loved the natural look of this bouquet, how it was like you’d scooped up a bunch of flowers from a meadow.

Charlie has an incredible way of bringing together a wide variety of flowers in one bouquet that looks so natural.

This is just one of the buttonholes Charlie made for my stand at the fair – and possibly my favourite.  I love the colours and the use of the seed heads.

Every buttonhole was unique, a different collection of a flowers, foliage and seed heads – people really loved the individuality of the buttonholes, rather than the traditional single rose worn by everyone.

A visit to The Real Cut Flower Garden

Charlie

Over the weekend Mr Rigg and I went to Hereford for a friend’s wedding.  So last week before we headed off, I got in contact with Charlie Ryrie – the fantastic woman behind The Real Cut Flower Garden to see if we could pay her a visit.  We were both lucky enough to be welcomed into her beautiful home and given a tour of her flower field.

It is always so nice to meet the people and businesses who I list on my directory, and to see first hand the wonderful work they are doing.  Charlie’s flower field was full of hot summery shades of red, yellow, orange, and purple – stunning sunflowers, purple verbena bobbing in the wind, and the last of the sweetpeas.

She has mentioned our visit on her blog and said some truly lovely things about my business, which is so encouraging and uplifting to hear when you’re always sat at home alone on your laptop beavering away.  We even discussed what flowers she grows in May for our own wedding – watch this space!
