An eco-friendly off grid glamping venue on an historic Cornish estate
Who are we...
Having studied Environment Chemistry at Sussex University, and more recently been involved in sustainable products in his financial career, Charlie has used all his skills, knowledge and passion in producing a delightful eco wedding venue in the most perfect natural setting.
The Fir Hill Estate is managed by Charlie Hoblyn and his team. Charlie’s family has owned the Estate since 1581 although it became ‘ruined’ after the Second World War. Since he has been stewarding the Estate, he has rebuilt and extended an old Barn and Cowshed for the dedicated purpose of events and hospitality.
Currently the site is used as a ‘Glamping venue’ and having established this business in the last few years, he is now developing the business at the Fir Hill as a wedding and events venue attracting like minded couples who wish ‘to do their bit’ in making the world more ecologically sustainable, whilst preserving the beautiful character of the Fir Hill.
Naturally all of the 9 Yurts at the Fir Hill would be available separately to accommodate wedding guests.
We can accommodate larger parties, by arranging marquees on site, and equally we can accommodate smaller parties.
As the Fir Hill was never connected to the ‘grid’ (ie electricity, water and gas supplies) he chose to maintain the ‘status quo’ by installing photovoltaic panels and a large set of batteries for the electrical supply, solar thermal panels and biomass burners for hot water supply, stunning log burners for heat supply and a bore hole for water supply (in addition to using an old spring).
The site is genuinely off-grid and yet can provide all the comforts of modern living.
The Fir Hill today is largely woodland and therefore naturally provides an ‘oasis’ of woodland amongst the fertile arable fields that surround the Estate.
