Our Valentine’s Day Real Wedding is just gorgeous. You’re certain to love the couple and their particularly personal country farm wedding, and I’m sure your heart will melt when you see the photographs of their little boy giving a speech at the reception. Adorable.
Groom George is from an agricultural background and as such, the couple decided that there was only one way they could plan their big day. Tractors, bunting, hay bales, a tractor wheel seating plan, straw dollies and wellies filled with flowers.
Bride Claire got in touch to share their day with us after being inspired by our site so I’ll hand over to her to give us the details…
Country farm wedding
“From the very start, we knew our wedding would have an agricultural country theme. With George having his own agricultural business we felt this would reflect us perfectly and give us the relaxed feel we wanted.”
Nerves and pearls
“On the morning of the wedding, it all seemed rather rushed; I was extremely excited and nervous and, if anything, tired from the late night in the marquee with the finishing touches.
“I wore a stunning Ronald Joyce dress, as soon as I tried it on there were tears – I knew it was the one. I also wore George’s granny’s pearl necklace; she couldn’t attend the wedding so it was extremely special to wear something of hers.”
Married in the local church
“We got married at Babworth Church, where we had our daughter Harriet christened. George travelled there on his tractor and I travelled in his Land Rover.”
Lindy Bop bridesmaids
“The bridesmaid dresses were the first items I bought so the wedding colour scheme was planned around these. They were bought online in the sale from Lindy Bop. My bridesmaids were my sister Jessica, best friend Amy, cousin Holly and my close friend Faye. Our little girl Harriet was my flower girl.”
The groom wore tweed
“The groom and groomsmen wore tweed jackets. George chose his brother Henry as his best man and Mike and Tommy, his friends, as the ushers; they were a great help the night before with the finishing touches in the marquee. Thomas, our little boy, was the page boy and ring bearer – he did a fantastic job.”
An emotional entrance
“When I started walking down the aisle I was already filled with emotion. First I saw my little boy Thomas beaming with pride. Then when George turned round I had to fight back the tears.”
Traditional ceremony and cheerful hymns
“We went for a very traditional service, which was lovely, and we had the hymns ‘All things bright and beautiful’ and ‘One more Step’.”
Natural and understated decorations
“We had minimum decoration throughout church apart from flowers on pew ends, at the altar and milk churns filled with flowers outside the church.”
Relaxed paddock reception
“The reception was held in a marquee situated in a paddock opposite our home. It was fantastic to have a blank canvas so we could make it our own.
“After the ceremony we went back to the marquee for a Pimm’s reception.”
DIY inspiration
“I used magazine, websites, blogs and Pinterest to gain ideas and inspiration. Seeing real brides create unique weddings spurred me on with DIY projects.
“It really was a family effort with DIYing, I couldn’t have done it without everyone’s help.”
‘Scooped from the garden’ flower arrangements
“I met with the florist Lucie from Branching Out who worked with me and helped me pick out the flowers to suit the bridesmaids’ dresses and for a ‘just scooped up from the garden’ look.”
Natural naked cake
“Our wedding cake was a stunning natural cake which we felt suited our theme. It had different flavoured layers and was made by the extremely talented Amy from Beauty Beau Cakes who was also our bridesmaid.”
Tractor tyre table plan
“We created the tractor tyre table plan, which was an idea I had from the start – it was great to see the finished article.”
Personal handmade stationery
“I made all the stationery for the wedding. With help and inspiration from The Natural Wedding Company. George drew a picture of a tractor, which we had made into a stamp and incorporated it onto all our stationery.”
Emotional speeches from the whole family
“The speeches were emotional, especially when Thomas made a speech telling everyone how much he loved us and how we were the best. He had us all in tears – it really was a precious moment.”
The perfect photographer
“Andy Hook was our photographer, a true professional and perfectionist. He is extremely talented and lovely. He did an amazing job with his assistant Holly. We used him previously for my daughters christening and cannot praise his work enough. We highly recommend him.”
Advice: ask for help!
“Don’t try take everything on yourself. Delegate jobs to people to make them feel involved with the day. Have DIY and planning sessions with your bridesmaids and friends – it really does make a difference.”
TNWC brides are inspiring
“I wanted to say how thankful I am for The Natural Wedding Company. I gained so many great ideas and inspiration from the website and blog posts. Hopefully our wedding will give other brides some inspiration like we gained from previous blogs.”
What a sweet wedding. Sending a huge thank you to lovely bride Claire for sharing her country farm wedding with us. It’s wonderful to see a wedding and hear from a bride who has been inspired by the wonderful weddings we feature on the blog. And of course, with thanks to photographer Andy Hook too.
