Cake love: a woodland fairy inspired wedding cake of berries and edible flowers
I wanted to go for a sumptuous over-the-top indulgent wedding cake this week – so I chose this one – what do you think? It’s a riot of soft fluffy cream, woodland berries and edible flowers. I love the addition of strawberry flowers and a few unripe strawberries and leaves, it gives it a magical feel, and those tiny sweet mushrooms!
It’s a real fairytale wedding cake, but one that it attainable if you want to make your own wedding cake or if you’re planning on getting a friend or family member to make it for you. It has a loose and easy style, nothing looks like its been placed or balanced, it is just pure natural effortlessness.
This cake takes me back to my childhood when I used to play at the bottom of my granny’s (very long) garden in Devon. There was a lovely old hedgerow that ran along the end and I would spend hours making tiny houses from whatever I could find so that the hedgerow fairies could have a party that night – moss became their dance floor and I would leave blackberries for them to eat, they even left my a note one time thanking me. Ah, to be a child again!
Did anyone play these sort of games? Do you ever find thoughts and memories of them creeping back into your everyday life, such as when you see an image that takes you straight back to those happy days?
