Cake love: a French croquembouche decorated with lavender

Charlie / 20 August 2010

France is one of my favourite places to go on holiday – if I wasn’t committed to having a low-key wedding at my family home in the Cotswolds I think we might have opted for a lazy wedding in the Loire (maybe here at our friends place).

This traditional French wedding cake – called a croquembouche – is made from cream filled choux buns and bound together with caramel.  The additional decoration of purple lavender flowers makes this cake full of country charm and elegance.

Ideal I think for someone looking for an alternative to the five-tiered white wedding cake.
