New Wives Club #6: how to grow your own cut flowers – equipment and how to grow

Last week on the New Wives Club we started this two part feature on how to grow cut flowers by looking at what to grow.  If you missed the part one, make sure you catch up by reading ‘how to grow your own cut flowers – what to grow’ first. Today I have the concluding part of this lovely feature by Chloe from BareBlooms, looking at the equipment you need and a step-by-step guide on how to grow your chosen flowers.  You’ll also find some top tips from Chloe at the bottom of the post, along with a glossary like …

New Wives Club #5: how to grow your own cut flowers – what to grow

The idea of growing your own cut flowers seems to be popular at the moment, with many of us dreaming of a small patch of ground dedicated to our own supply of pretty blooms that we can raid to decorate ours homes.  The most difficult part, I find, is translating that dream into a reality. In a bid to get myself a small patch of cut flowers, and to encourage and help you to as well, I’ve enlisted the help of Chloe from BareBlooms to share some of her tips on how to start your own cutting garden.  Chloe grows …

New Wives Club #4: how to make your own vintage teacup bird feeders

Wow, this feels very strange – a return to ‘normal’ blogging after an incredible month of offers and competitions (lots are still running so do take a look!).  And what better way to return, than with a lovely New Wives Club post and a guest post from the lovely Sharon from For The Love Of Vintage. Sharon came up with this fantastic idea to give a new lease of life for chipped vintage teacups – turning them into rather lovely bird feeders!  In her business, hiring out vintage crockery for weddings, the china understandably takes some wear and tear.  So …

New Wives Club #3: new life for old wooden step ladders

I’m quite excited today because I have someone else to share ideas with you – my lovely friend Caroline, also recently married, who is responsible for coining the phrase ‘new wives club’ and starting me down this blogging path.  Fingers-crossed, Caroline’s lovely wedding will be shared in detail on the blog in the coming months, but for now she’s going to share a creative solution that she’s done at home recently… I would say that for most of the wedding planning I was dreaming about what the flowers would look like and how I could make them look as pretty …

New Wives Club #2: using vintage jelly moulds as tealight holders

Welcome to my second New Wives Club post!  Today’s idea for reusing wedding finds in your home is my own idea, rather than one I’ve found online and recreated at home.  I have a soft spot for collecting vintage jelly moulds, the metal kind – I think it is something about the soft shapes and the worn brushed silver colour.  Anyway, just before Christmas I realised I’d got rather a lot and they were looking forlorn piled up in a corner of my office.  Somehow I decided I would use them over Christmas, upturned and filled with tealights – the …

New Wives Club #1: reusing glass cake stands to display pretty objects in your home

It was this picture above that prompted me to get on with my New Wives Club feature – it encompasses what I’d like it to be about – in particular, reusing items from your wedding in your home. I have about six glass cake stands that I collected for our wedding from carboot sales, charity shops and one more pricey one found at a vintage fair.  Most of them are sitting on a shelf in our front bedroom not doing a lot.  One has been put out over Christmas in our living room to display a vase of white narcissi. …

New Wives Club: a warm welcome to my new blog feature for all you recently married girls

For a while now I’ve wanting to start a regular blog post for all the new wives out there.  The bit before getting married is exciting and fun (and also stressful), but what about afterwards?  My love for the ideas and inspiration I share on the blog extends into my everyday life.  I love collecting old bits and pieces and finding new uses for them around my home, and I think some of you do this too. We can gather so many lovely things for our weddings, but I don’t think after the ‘big day’ we should stop being like …
