Crochet lace jam jar hangers to create soft twinkling lanterns

Crochet lace jam jar hangers

I’m sure at some point someone will declare jam jars and their many uses at weddings “so last year” in fact, they probably already have.  At any rate, I don’t care – there is something wonderfully simple and pleasing about a jam jar filled with flowers from your garden, or flickering as a lantern in the evening with a tealight – whether it’s at your wedding or in your home.  Especially knowing that in a previous life it contained jam, honey, chutney or some other condiment.

Natural crochet lantern holders

I love seeing new ways of prettying up a jam jar (if you’re a fan I’ve even started a collection of my favourites over on Pinterest) so these handcrafted crochet lace hangers appeal to me in all kinds of ways.  They somehow have a modern yet bygone feel to them, so delicate with their jam jar hidden inside.  In these soft natural colours I imagine they create a lovely atmosphere at night with tealight glowing from them.

Whether hung from your wedding tent or giant tipi, strung up in your living room, or brought out to decorate your patio on a summers evening, I can see they’d be a well used item – both practical and beautiful.

So you’ll be pleased to hear they are made by talented Etsy seller SpindleShuttleNeedle and come in a variety of colour shades.

I would love to learn how to crochet – when I was a teenager I saw a black crocheted dress in a fashion magazine and fell in love with it and dreamt about having one like it – maybe I shall have to make some time and learn one of these days :)
