Cake love: a chic and subtle succulent wedding cake

Charlie / 27 July 2012

Succulent wedding cake

I took a look through the past few weeks of my Cake Love blog posts and discovered they’d been getting decidedly ‘girlie’ with lots of softly romantic wedding cakes.  There’s absolutely nothing wrong with these cakes, I love them or I wouldn’t have shared them, but I thought you might be in need of something that broke with the theme of the past few weeks.

So I chose this rather chic and understated wedding cake with its stunning display of succulents that wind their way up the cake.  Succulents come in such pretty shades of green and grey-blue but their structural leaves and shapes mean they create a striking look.

I’m not an expert on succulents, but having read about wedding bouquets that feature succulents, I do believe that you should be able to wash the icing off them and they will continue living if given the right conditions.  What a lovely reminder of your wedding day, to have pots of succulents knowing that they once decorated your wedding cake.
