Blog
Over the weekend Mr Rigg and I have been decorating our living room (the largest room in our house, two small cottage rooms knocked through to one) – a far step from the glamorous world of weddings. I have been using copious amounts of masking tape to cover up plug sockets and light switches and it inspired me to share with you ideas on what to do with the pretty version of making tape, known as washi tape.
It comes in all different colours and styles and there are lots of fun and creative ideas out there for how to use it. I think next time I’m we decorate I’m going to buy washi tape and use that instead of boring old cream coloured masking tape – can’t you just see all my light switches covered up with some of this…
So here are my favourite finds on how to use washi tape…
Bottles and jam jars sprayed white then decorated with colourful washi tape – these would make pretty vases for your wedding tables or just to hold flowers around your house.
Washi tape cake flags - simply made by wrapping washing tape around wooden cocktail sticks or skewers, I love them when there’s a group of them all different heights and coloured flags.
Colourful flowers made from washi tape - there is a tutorial to accompany these gorgeous flowers made from washi tape and I like they’d be great made into buttonholes for a wedding. You can buy similar paper flowers from The Paper Florist.
Washi tape covered pegs – perfect for organising your life (stick a magnet to the back and they would stick to your fridge) or they would look lovely at a wedding, perhaps pegged onto a name place card in each guests place, or to peg up names for your table plan. Fancy making them – here’s the tutorial.
Jam jars decorated with washi tape bunting - I love this simple little project to decorate otherwise rather dull jam jars. You could fill them with flowers or tealights for a wedding or to decorate your home, or they could hold pens and other household ephemera (I’m always on the look out for pretty containers to hold ‘things’ that clutter up our house).
Wedding stationery sealed with washi tape – a super simple idea to bring a little cheer to your wedding stationery by using a tiny piece of washi tape to seal your envelopes. There are also loads of other ideas out there for incorporating washi tape into cards and stationery if you have a search.
Washi tape wedding favour packaging – yes, this blog is dedicated to being eco-friendly, but I am guilty of being a sucker for packaging. Not plastic packaging, but beautiful crafted packaging made from recycled and recycleable materials. There is just something lovely about giving or receiving a well wrapped gift – so how about using washi tape to jolly-up the packaging on tiny wedding favours?
Do you have any other fun ideas for how to use washi tape in your wedding or home craft projects?
